Couples Counselling

The average couple tends to wait
6 years before seeking help for their relationship problems.

The sooner a couple seeks a couples therapist, the faster and easier it can be to turn their relationship around.

According to research, the chance of a marriage
ending in divorce over a 40-year period is 67%.

50% of these divorces occur in the first 7 years of marriage.

In spite of these odds, many couples wait until their problems are severe before seeking marriage/relationship counselling. This is indeed unfortunate since over the past few decades, methods of couples counselling have increasingly become more effective at helping couples solve their problems and avoid the dreaded “D” word.

While it is understandable that many couples wait before seeking therapy as they hope that they will be able to work things out on their own, it is also true that the longer problems are left to fester, the worse they often get. Before they know it, couples can end up feeling completely stressed and alienated from one another. Please know that you are certainly not alone in struggling with relationship dynamics. Being in a committed relationship can feel very difficult and we don't come out of the womb with the tools for how to navigate through intense and heavy emotions, or how to work towards a happy and healthy relationship.

We can work towards turning your dream of having a loving and fulfilling relationship into a reality.

If you are struggling with any of the relationship problems below, couples therapy can possibly help when:

  • You don’t feel heard or understood by your partner.

  • You are sick of the fighting or not speaking to one another.

  • You feel sad, alone, frustrated and exhausted.

  • Your self-esteem is suffering. You don’t feel very lovable sometimes.

  • Despite your best efforts, things just aren’t getting better.

  • You long for the intimacy, passion and fun that you once had.

  • You fear for your future together.

All of the above are common concerns of couples who come to see me for marriage or couples therapy. While there a variety of reasons why couples struggle, most are in one way or another, the result of not being able to communicate effectively. This is where my skills as a couples therapist can be of assistance.

Couples therapy can help to turn your dream of having a loving and fulfilling relationship into a reality.

There is no such thing as a perfect relationship, but it is certainly a reasonable expectation to have one that includes safety, security, respect, compromise, friendship, closeness, comfort, intimacy, passion and fun. Happy and healthy couples have these characteristics and they know how to communicate effectively with each other.

Happy and healthy couples are also committed to each other, trust each other, and are able to apologize and forgive when they have hurt each other.  I would love to help guide you towards creating a relationship like this, where you can work towards healing your hurt from the past and moving forward to feeling good about your future together.

Through couples counselling we can work towards helping you both to:

  • Listen and understand one another better.

  • Deepen your connection to each other.

  • Set healthy boundaries when needed and learn to better

  • Ask for what you need.

  • Increase trust and strengthen your commitment to one another.

  • Reignite your passion for each other.

  • Have more fun and enjoy each other more.

We would love to help you to have a successful relationship and to acquire the skills and behaviours that will turn your relationship of stress and turmoil into harmony and happiness. We strive to work in a down-to-earth, practical way and use a variety of well-researched and proven couples therapy modalities that we tailor to your needs.
